You know how it is when you find something you love and instantly you want everyone you know to love it, too? Here is a list of things the Beehive is into at this very moment. We invite you to share your obsession in the comments.
Note: The Beehive welcomes aboard its new editor, Kathy Mahan, whose obsession gave us a reason to post the hot picture of Michael Phelps seen at right. She fits right in, no?
Editor Kathy: “I’m obsessed with the Twilight saga. Fans are really sounding off about Book 4, Breaking Dawn. Apparently some fans are peeved about the twists and are letting loose with ugly reviews. Author Stephenie Meyer responded and is sticking by her story. Now that I’ve finished reading the books, I’ll have to focus on the movie’s fab Robert Pattinson.
Will: “It’s football season, so right now I’m obsessed with following my Bucs‘ preseason games on the NFL Network. Usually that would be enough to get my sports fix until regular season starts, but for the first time baseball is wedging its way into my late summer/early fall TV watching. That’s right, my Rays (and if they keep winning, I’ll call them whatever they wanna be called — Devil Rays, Angel Rays, X-Rays) are still shining atop the AL East standings, and making a real threat at a playoff run with the second-best record in all of baseball. It’s all sports, all the time, at my house — and with my alma mater ranked just above Fresno State in the preseason polls, it’ll be a college football season to pay attention to, as well.”
Donald: “I am obsessed with Bob Costas’ toupee. It doesn’t matter what he’s talking about when he’s anchoring the Olympics — whether he’s interviewing President Bush, gushing over Michael Phelps or complimenting the Chinese government over the comfy towels at his hotel — I can’t concentrate. My eye keeps wandering to the curiously inert, reticent clump of hair that appears to be languishing on his head. Is it the color? The texture? The way it lays just a little too flat? All I know is that when Costas is alongside Matt Lauer, who has famously embraced his male-pattern baldness, Costas seems hopelessly unhip and old-mannish.”
Mike Oz: “If rapping were a competition in the Olympics, Detroit wordsmith Elzhi would be a gold medalist, no doubt. Known for being a member of underground crew Slum Village, Elzhi’s rhymes are precise, his wordplay is creative and his flow is straight-up obsession-worthy. He just dropped his first proper solo release “The Preface” this week, after numerous mixtapes and compilations. Stand out tracks include “Brag Swag,” “Motown 25,” “Colors” and “Save Ya” — all of which you can hear on his MySpace.”
Heather: “I am obsessed with fall right now, and that has manifested itself in an obsession with O.P.I.’s new nail lacquer collection, La Collection de France. I’m not-so-patiently waiting for the temperature to drop thirty-five degrees so I can start wearing the glorious purple of “Louvre Me Louvre Me Not,” the wine-inspired “Eiffel For This Color” and the taupe-y “You Don’t Know Jacques!”
I also am obsessed with a new print I recently ordered from a small gallery in New York called Charmingwall. I fell in love with artist Evan B. Harris’ “Salt & Sea Piano Keys” and am now in the process of removing everything else from my walls in anticipation of its arrival. The best part about Charmingwall is that the often whimsical prints are just $20 (more for matted and/or framed prints and shipping).”
Your turn. What’s your obsession right now?
