Win tickets to Fresno Grand Opera’s ‘Rondine’

Opera fans take note: Here’s a chance to win two free tickets to Fresno Grand Opera’s production of Puccini’s “La Rondine,” which opens Friday at the Shaghoian Hall on the campus of Clovis North High School. These tickets are for the 2 p.m. Sunday matinee, which is the closing performance.
I wrote about the upcoming “Rondine” in my Sunday Spotlight column. I tackled two topics. The first: I talked with this small-scale opera’s leading lady and man, Rebecca Davis as Magda, the former courtesan, and Chad A. Johnson, who plays the dashing and naive Ruggero, who falls in love with Magda at first sight. (But will their family backgrounds keep them apart? Ah, the romantic torment of opera.)
The second theme: This is the first time that Fresno Grand Opera will stage a production at the acoustically glorious Shaghoian, which is a third the size of the Saroyan Theatre, which has been the company’s home for more than 10 years. Director Joseph Bascetta says the smaller venue is a perfect size for an intimate opera such as “La Rondine.” The production is considered fully staged with scenery, costumes, lighting and 28-piece orchestra.
To enter the contest, leave a comment on this post telling us if you’re a longtime opera fan or a newcomer to the genre — and why you’d like to attend this performance.
Deadline to enter is 5 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will be chosen at random and notified via e-mail, so please leave a valid address. Only one entry per person, please. You’ll be able to pick up your tickets at the Shaghoian’s Will Call window.
Complete rules are on the jump.

I love the opera and would love to see it performed in Shagoian Hall!
“And now, on with the opera. Let joy be unconfined. Let there be dancing in the streets, drinking in the saloons, and necking in the parlor.”
A Night At The Opera
This should be a wonderful proformance that I would love to see. I hope the man upstairs is looking down on me and I win some tickets.
I fell in love with this opera in college — listening to the recording on vinyl in the college library. There’s a ravishingly gorgeous quartet for two tenors and two sopranos, as well as that swooningly beautiful aria — I’d love to see it live. And now that the FGO has settled with the musicians…..
I would LOVE to see this!
Soooo new to Opera…would love to experience this!
I’ve never watched a full-length opera and would like to see something local. Sounds fun.
I saw “Carmen” last year and thought it was a great performance. It would be nice to watch another. I’ve never heard of this one before but I’m sure it’ll be a good.
I’m not a big opera fan because I have not seen much. I’d like to see this one because the plot sounds interesting. Thanks for the opportunity.
I’ve one opera while in college and I can’t even remember the title. I would love to win and watch fresno talent out on a great show.
Total newcomer, but you’re doing a good job of educating.
