Win tickets to ‘RENT’
UPDATE: Congratulations to winner Anthony Taylor.
ORIGINAL POST: There’s only one real way to experience the musical “RENT,” and that’s live. (The movie had its own charms, but it couldn’t capture the raucous energy of this much-beloved show.)
Here’s your chance with California Public Theater’s new local production, which has a short two-performance run. It opens Friday at the Tower Theatre and continues Saturday. As a Beehive reader, you can win two tickets to opening night. These are premium tickets (prices range from $23.50-$38.50), so you’ll get a great seat.
To enter, leave a comment on this post telling us your favorite song from “RENT.” (If you don’t know any, that’s OK — just tell us why you’d like to see this show.)
Deadline to enter is noon Thursday. The winner will be chosen at random and notified via e-mail, so please leave a valid address. I’ll be picking the winner at 12:15, so be sure to check your e-mail around that time. If you can’t do that and would rather be contacted by phone, send me an e-mail (separate from your comment) at dmunro@fresnobee.com with your number, and I’ll contact you that way.
Rules are on the jump.

Responses to "Win tickets to ‘RENT’"
I have always loved Seasons of Love…but I tear up every time I hear I’ll Cover You (Reprise). Also, in the true spirit of Bohemia, I am too broke to see this show on my own wallet. C’mon, Beehive!
My favorite song from the whole show is “Light My Candle”! I love Mimi’s vocals and Roger’s comedic interaction within the song!
“Will I” has always been my favorite since the beginning. Something always gets me…between the lyrics or singing in rounds. It’s moving.
Well of course it has to “Seasons of Love”! This song reaches so many levels of life and friendships in a few perfect lyrics. We travel quite a bit and when friends join us we have used this song as the background when making them a DVD of the trip…it’s pretty perfect for that!
Ive never seen “Rent” that is why I would love to see it; plus I just had a baby boy and it would be the perfect date night for his dad and I!
Take Me or Leave Me!
Although the Tango Maureen is a close second.
What You Own
“I’ll Cover You” is my favorite Rent song. I’ve seen the movie, a traveling version — but I’ve never seen a local production of this show. I’m Christmas/NewYears brokebrokebroke, – but I’d love to be able to see this show at the Tower Theater!!!!!
I’m gonna have to go with Halloween… Mark’s inner monologue – one of the few insights into this character who has narrated the show.
A close second is the I’ll Cover You reprise… Absolutely beautiful song!
“Will I” is my favorite song in the show. Simple, yet beautifully profound impact.
“Will I lose my dignity
will someone care
will i wake tomorrow
from this nightmare”
These 15 words make up the entire song…and still gives me chills just thinking about the sound this number produces.
The song “Santa Fe”. Owned the music but have never seen the play.
Seasons of Love for so many different ways!
After reading the comments from folks who love the songs, I would so love to experience if for myself!
Would love to see this show!
La Vie Boheme…so much fun!
Seasons of love
Never saw it really want to experience it and bring the new year in with the energy of the show.
Honestly, I’m going to wind up gifting the tickets if I win.
Can I just say all of it?
Never seen the movie, I love musicals and I’ve heard it’s awesome! Would be a lovely date for my Husband and I
Thank you!
Season of love….love it!
I saw “Rent” on Broadway and frankly was not impressed, despite the raves of the NYC press. I’d like to see it again to see if my original reaction was justified.
I don’t know. I have never seen it.
Best song is Seasons of Love. Great harmony and powerful message.
TAKE ME OR LEAVE ME!
I was belting this in my car the other day, no joke!
Please pick me!
Seasons of love!
I would love to see this show!
I too have never seen the musical or the movie but have seen some iteresting comments that make me curious@to experience it first hand and see how it compares to other great musicals.
Your Eyes
Seasons of Love!
Seasons of love is hands down one of my favorite songs in general…holds so many memories too!
My favorite song from RENT has to be “What You Own.”
Love belting it out in my car, acting as if I can sing a two-part harmony by myself!
Seen the movie a long time ago, but Id like to see the real thing.
I’m a Rent novice. I’ve seen the DVD version just once last month, but my daughter — now a freshman at attending college away from home — is a Rent aficionado. She’s in town for Christmas and would LOVE to see a live performance.
Gotta go with “What You Own.” I have too many wonderful memories of seeing/hearing this song live.
I’VE HEARD OF RENT BUT HAVE NOT SEEN IT. IT WOULD GREAT TO SEE IT.
I’ve read about it & have been told by friends that this is a good show. Haven’t seen it so I dont know any songs.
la vie boheme!!!
Tune Up #1. It’s such a great way to start a show. Brave and inspired.
Hard to pick one song, but Seasons of Love could be it. (X’ing my fingerS to win, too)
I have yet to see “Rent”. I cannot provide a favorite song without cheating.
Having said that, I heard that Abigail Nolte is part of the cast. This makes the opportunity to see the musical all the more exciting.
Every song in Rent is fabulous! I actually like the song “Rent”. It’s rockin!
My daughters love this show. They go around singing tango maureen and seasons of love. They would love to see this show.
I haven’t seen it either. I would love to see it.
I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS PRODUCTION! Seasons of Love is by far my favorite.
“Will I?” hit home for me as a cancer patient as I asked some of the same questions. Thanks for the opportunity : )
I would LOVE for my husband and I to enjoy RENT for the first time together!! Plus its my turn to win something
I have never been but it would make a could date night.
Rent is hands-down my favorite musical. It takes me back to my college years, where we would belt the whole soundtrack at cast parties, much to the annoyance of the techies in the department. “What you Own” was always the most fun to harmonize to, but “I’ll Cover You” is the prettiest. And every time I hear “La Vie Boheme” I feel 19 again. So to answer your question, I guess I can’t pick just one favorite.
I’ve missed “RENT” live a couple of times but I love “Seasons of Love.” I’d love to hear it live; there’s nothing like the energy of live theatre!
Favorite song in the show is Tango Maureen. Looking forward to seeing the local cast!
525000, 600 minutes- worth the wait -
Tango Maureen
I’ve never seen “RENT” but would love to go.
I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed to see the show that everyone is talking about !!!
“Without You”
This would be a great weekend treat! Bee Hive pick me! I will say that Take Me or Leave Me is good.
Seasons of Love.
