Without being totally obvious, the Fresno Grizzlies’ fifth annual Taco Truck Throwdown was a huge success. Like, a total sell out — all 12,500 seats at Chukchansi park and an additional 5,000 or so standing room tickets. The scene looked like this:
Here’s a video, if you prefer.
Now the team is offering a second chance to enjoy the Valley’s best tacos (and see a ballgame). Tomorrow night the team presents “Legends of the Throwdown” a curated clash between four of Fresno’s taco truck titans — La Elegante, El Mexicano, Tacos Mazatlan and El Premio Mayor.
Three of the trucks are past throwndown winners. El Pemio Mayor won both the judges and the people’s choice awards this year. El Mexicano has not won a throwdown, but has the distinction of being the only truck in town to compete in all five events.
Unlike the throwndown, there will be no taco vouchers. So, bring cash for the trucks.
Much like the throwdown, you will be able to vote for your favorite of the four.
Bottom line: If you want to really understand Fresno tacos like a true connoisseur (and are put off some by massive crowds), or if you just need a second round of amazing-ass tacos, you need to be at the Chuck on Thursday.
