Lots of restaurant and retail news happening lately, so I figured it was time for a round up. Here’s what’s happening.

Lots of folks have been asking what’s happening at the former Fajita Fiesta on Shaw Avenue, just west of Cedar Avenue. It’s going to be Guri’s Grubhouse & Taps. It’s a gastropub (that means lots of craft beer and gourmet food) that the people who own Swigg’s are opening. You can read all about it here. No opening date released yet.

The long dead corner of Clinton and Weber will get a Vallarta Supermarket. The Hispanic grocer probably won’t open until the end of 2015, but it’s nice to finally have some action on the site of the former Mid-State Bowl.

The Elephant Lounge is open at 80 W. Shaw Ave. in Clovis in the former North India Bar & Grill. It quietly opened a few weeks ago to work out the kinks. The restaurants sells Indian food — both authentic and fusion — along with Italian and American. Stay tuned for more details on that from me.

Just got word that DOY Grill is open at the northeast corner of Herndon and Fowler avenues. The owner has described this restaurant as the Chipotle of Mediterranean food, meaning you can customize your dish as you roll along the counter. Expect to hear more details on this one soon too.

The city’s newest Ross store opened earlier this month. This one is at the Marketplace at El Paseo at Herndon Avenue near Highway 99.

Ann Taylor LOFT closed its Fashion Fair store, apparently many months ago. The company didn’t return messages asking why, but apparently the Ann Taylor LOFT at River Park is enough to serve the entire market. In its place at Fashion Fair is a teen and junior clothing store called Joppa, where everything is under $10 until Monday.

Also in Fashion Fair Mall, Panda Express will soon open a location in the food court. Bet that one gets a lot of customers.

And just in case you haven’t visited the Beehive in a while, Five Guys Burgers and Fries wants to open a whole bunch of restaurants here, Ooh De Lolli Take Away Cafe is selling lots of baked goods at Gazebo Gardens, there’s a new kid’s clothing store and some other news in Old Town Clovis, Benaddiction opened its sit-down restaurant, Cracked Pepper Bistro is in its new north Fresno digs and The Melting Pot might be coming.
