AMC has announced today that it has renewed “The Walking Dead” for a fifth season.
That’s no surprise because the Sunday night series is the top-rated show on television among adults 18-49. And, television executives love that demographic.
“The Walking Dead” set a new viewing record earlier this month. A total of 20.2 million viewers watched the show, a new record for any non-sports cable telecast.
“We are very happy to make what has to be one of the most anti-climactic renewal announcements ever: ‘The Walking Dead’ is renewed for a fifth season,” Charlie Collier, AMC president, says. “This is a show that has erased traditional distinctions between cable and broadcast.
“Its expanding base of passionate fans has grown every season, most recently – and most notably – with the season four premiere earlier this month.”
I want to repeat for those of you who still aren’t watching. Don’t avoid the series because you think it’s only about zombies. It’s a well-written, superbly acted show about survival with zombies as the background. Find the first season on DVD and start watching.
