I have a grand proposition for you. In my most recent Sunday Spotlight column, I waxed philosophical about the joys of opening yourself up to new experiences in life in terms of culture — of getting out of your comfort zone. My example was going to a “hair metal” concert in the 1980s: Go Winger!

Here’s my proposal: If you’ve never been to the Fresno Philharmonic, I want to hear from you. I’m looking for a person or two — maybe even a family —  to come with me as my guests to listen to the orchestra’s last concert of the season.

There’s an added bonus: Before the April 27 concert, which features pianist Gabriela Martinez (pictured above) and music by Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky, I’ll arrange with my guests to meet privately with the orchestra’s music director, Maestro Theodore Kuchar, who will offer a crash course in the music to be played and what to expect at a concert. There will be some other perks as well. And then I’ll put you in a story about the experience.

Tell us why you’d like to be considered in 500 words or less as a comment on this post. Please leave a working email address, because that’s how I’ll contact you. Entries must be received by April 18.

This should be fun!

Damn, I would be totally in to this, but I have a show that night. :(

I’m too embarrassed to admit that I’ve never been. Never. NEVER. I can’t believe it myself.

I’m supposed to be this entertainment kinda guru, this film/theatre/club guy who actually works to promote concerts. But I’ve never attended the Philharmonic.

I don’t know if I have 500 or even 50 words to explain why I would deserve such a trip. I can’t say I’m just a Styx fan (true), so that’s why I’ve never been. I even used to play percussion in my HS orchestra.

I have just been – remiss. And I know full well that “I want to meet Gabriella Martinez because she’s hott” will not be reason enough to win such an adventure.

    I have no excuse.

I have never been to a Philharmonic, but I love going to concerts. I usually go to at least six concerts a year all over the state. My passion is Hip-Hop so this would truly be out of my normal range of music. But I am a music lover, and love all genres. I just turned 30 so it’s about time I broaden my horizons and shed a little culture into my life. I’ve always wanted to attend something like this but I wouldn’t even know where to start. If I go I wouldn’t know what to expect but would go with great intentions on having a good time. I would like to take my wife and sister to witness this event so they can share the experience. I’m positive that they have never attended a philharmonic either. My wife would be pleased that it is not a local underground night club where I usually attend my rap venues, but she puts up with it because it’s my passion. Maybe this is something she would enjoy just as much as I enjoy my rap music. lol The offer you extend would be a great first time experience for me or whoever wins. Thanks for the opportunity; I look forward into meeting you and Gabriela!!!
