Tiesto brings his Club Life College Invasion Tour to the Save Mart Center.

I had a chance to see Tiesto at Coachella in 2010. I saw Major Lazer instead. So I missed finding out what’s with all the hype on this guy. In the EDM scene, he’s a big name and his Club Life College Invasion tour (in town on Wednesday) will no doubt be packed with fans–sweaty, pulsating fans.

Maybe you. We’ve got two pair of tickets for Beehive readers. All you need to do is tell us what’s your favorite genre (or subgenre) of EDM (also, what is EDM? Just kidding). Winners will be chosen at random and notified by email.

..it’s sort of hard to speak to any one category of EDM.. you sort of wake up one day and realize: ‘..oh my god, I think I’m into electronica..’ -and the roots go waaaay back.

It does come down to what is good, and what is not.. I like some of Tiesto’s work, it would be good to see him live. For those wondering what artists are worth checking into that may not be familiar with this form… (and it’s huge.)

-pretty much ANYTHING by Gabriel and Dresden
(as well as remixes of their works, -which are remixes to begin with,) -is amazing (recommend: ‘Dangerous Power: Cicaida Mix, Killers: ‘Read My Mind’, and Dido’s ‘Don’t Leave Home’.)

-early trip-hop like Portishead (which is more shoegazer,)

-(ya wanna get really dusty? Tangerine Dream (or) Kraftwerk

-the unreal work of R.L. Burnside in ‘Come On In,’ -which blew out hard-core blues into an genre nobody was expecting… (amazing album.)

-Crystal Method / Filter’s ‘Trip Like I do’ (from waaaay back: the ‘Spawn’ soundtrack (I also recommend ‘Vegas’ the full-on Crystal Method C.D.

    -and… of late.. M-83
–insanely good stuff… -particularly the album ‘Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming.’ (song to check out: ‘Intro’ ‘Midnight City’ and ‘Wait’ -basically a French Dude who has a girl on keys (White Lake (?) I think? -she’s out of L.A.
-extraordinary lush, multilayered that pulls from everything from ‘Air’, ‘Yes,’ ‘Eno’, ‘Tears for Fears,’ ‘Frankie Goes to Hollywood’ -and Ennio Moricone…

I’ve also been doing a little DefTones… not bad ‘Rosemary’ is pretty epic…… but clearly somebody in that band listened to ‘Mortal / Fold Zandura’ and ‘Circle of Dust’ back in the day…

    …and if you’re not dancing to it… you’re like… dead. (be careful if you’re driving… thank God I only have a 4 cylinder..)
