Most of the questions that have popped up during the recent changes in local talk radio have been about the loss of sports talk radio host Jim Rome from Fresno’s KCBL (AM, 1340). When Rome changed to being syndicated by the CBS Sports Radio Network instead of the Fox Sports Radio Network, he was replaced Jan. 2 by actor-comedian Jay Mohr in the 9 a.m. time slot.
The closest radio station broadcasting Rome’s show is in Modesto. But, that may be changing soon.
The web site Radio Insight is reporting that Fresno’s KJZN (FM 105.5) looks ready to switch from its conservative talk format — that features Rusty Humphries and Andrea Tantaros — to a sports talk channel. Station management has registered the domain name 1055TheGame.com.
If the station does make the switch, the CBS lineup would be the biggest sports talk radio syndicator left as KCBL (AM 1340) airs Fox Sports and KFIG (AM 940) is home to ESPN.
More as the story unfolds.
