If you're like me, you're spending this Monday morning thinking back to the weekend that was (and wondering how the heck the weekend heat got replaced by Monday wetness).
So let's do some weekend reminiscing, shall we? My adventures are below. Share yours in the comments.
TRI-TIP OVERLOAD
Saturday afternoon was Taste Fresno's first Tri-Tip Cookoff and it was a lot of fun. I was one of the six competitors, mostly so I could say I competed in a tri-tip cook-off. It's sort of a Fresno merit badge, right? The event had a community barbecue feel to it, and lots of yummy food. (There was also a best side dish competition). Travis Sheridan, blogger, magician, Rogue performer and friend of The Beehive added tri-tip champ to his résumé, as he crowned winner for his spicy crock-pot-cooked tri-tip.
CREATIVE FRESNANS
After the tri-tip cook-off, I headed over to the Downtown Club for Creative Fresno's annual "Meeting of the Minds." This is Creative Fresno's annual show-and-tell, and introduction of its new board members. (Sidenote: My wife was elected to the board this year, so congrats, babe!) The highlight for me was new city manager Mark Scott, who gave a brief introduction of himself and pep talk about the potential of Fresno's creative community. He earned a big ovation when he announced that as of that afternoon, he was a resident of Iron Bird Lofts.
SOFTBALL SUNDAY
I'm quite sore today from a Sunday morning Tweetup softball game. Just to brag: My team won ... but my legs lost.
YOUR TURN
What did you do this weekend? Head down to the Swedish Festival in Kingsburg? Or Spring Fling up in North Fresno? See Straight No Chaser at Tower Theatre? Did you mourn the loss of Ronnie James Dio? Find a favorite new band? Discover a favorite new local business?

Closed "Pho For The Soul" well on Saturday night. Though not from lack of promotion the show should have had double the number of audience for it's entire (6 night) run. Still, I was pleased with it.
Friday it was the opening night of Swedish Festival in Kingsburg. My daughter relinquished her crown as festival queen, and then there were many people in folk costumes dancing.
Saturday, the Swedish Festival parade was graced again by the infamous Bassett Waddle featuring scads of them short-legged, long-eared critters floppin' down the street. My son walked our gigantic tank-of-a-hound Onslo.
Later Saturday it was over to the Broken Leg Theater to see Marcel and KP's "Pho for the Soul".
Great show. Great venue. I look forward to seeing more stuff there.
Sunday, sat on the back patio and read. ahhhh, now that's the life.
Took a few exchange students on a mural walk through the Mural District, something I've been wanting to do for a long time! You would miss so much detail just driving by, definitely one of the highlights of my weekend.
Also, watched my son (3 years old) in his first dance recital at Break the Barriers. The fact that he didn't fight me over the sequined vest and bow tie was another highlight (and miracle). BTB really had a great production with the recitals- an entire musical that was written by one of the staff.
Well Friday was spent watching "The Suppressors" and their cd release it was pretty good, its been a while since I have seen a good ska show. They should have had an opening band though.
Saturday was spent at the most awesome spectacles of meat magic "Tri-tip cookoff" Lots of different takes on how to cook the tri's. Later that night I was at the Spring Fling, lots of people showed up and the fashion show was really good.
Sunday was spent at the softball tweetup and YAY TEAM OZ for smashing the other team. That was a lot of fun.
That was the weekend for me.
Travis is still a GOD. the man can do no wrong. Congrats!!
Thanks, man. There was a lot of good tri-tip out there. I'm just glad my unconventional style paid off.
Friday, I crashed the iLoveToCreate company picnic to hang with some truly professional creators. ProCreators FTW. Then I hit up the Brig for some darts and pool. I love that place.
Saturday, I started cooking the "award-winning" tri-tip at 8:00 am at Kearney Park. Props to James Collier and TasteFresno.com for a great event.
Sunday, the Madera Wine Trail. Meh. Not too bad, but I was exhausted from everything else.
Monday, dragging ass.
friday night caught argyle pimps. enjoyed the show, and really liked the live brass playing with them. only drawback was that the vocals got a little lost at times.
saturday afternoon went to a going away party. in the evening, went & checked out this charming band (again). good times, tcb was as good as ever. for the masses, the depeche mode tribute band was decent, but i prefer the more somber depeche mode and they played the more poppy depeche mode.
sunday, two birthday celebrations.
Fri - Suppressors show at Audie's
Sat - Creative Fresno Board Meeting, Tri-tip Cook-off, Creative Fresno Annual Meeting, dinner at Joe's Steakhouse
Sun - Softball, pizza and beer, then caught Love the Captive's show at Audie's. (Fierce Creatures is pretty awesome)
All-in-all it was a pretty full weekend.
Friday Night: worked on 2 film permits, Bill Maher ... Saturday: Creative Fresno, Iron Man II, Creative Fresno Party ... church, dogs, film permit, dogs, uh, Desperate Housewives.
My weekend events really started Thursday night with the Pho Show (great storytelling by Marcel and KP!), Friday was socializing at Ashtree, Saturday was a fun fundraiser party for the Sierra Foothill Conservancy and Sunday was the last outside artist reception at Ashtree and dinner at the Laughing Budda with family.
