Five Things You Should Do This Weekend

Because we don't expect you to only come to Beehive Birthday V this weekend ...

1. BLEND, BABY, BLEND
Since uplifting Fresno is a popular topic these days, you oughta know about another cool community event happening tonight. It's Creative Fresno's monthly Creative Blender. The basic concept: Creative-minded Fresnans mingle at a different happy hour location the first Friday of each month. Today its at downtown eatery/bar The Cosmopolitan from 5 to 8 p.m. On a similar Fresno-betterment note: Be sure to read my 20 Steps to Being a Better Fresnan column in today's Bee, if you haven't yet. You might be able to cross a couple things off the list just by going to this.

2. IN THIS MUGG
DJ Muggs -- of Cypress Hill fame -- is in Fresno tonight, spinning at Audie's Olympic. He's joined by fellow hip-hop turntablism heavyweight DJ Rocky Rock. Would it be totally corny for us to say that if you're a hip-hop head, and you miss this, you're insane in the membrane? Yeah? Too bad. We said it.

3. CURRENT MEETS RETRO
If you're not familiar with A Current Affair, they're one of the young rock bands from the area that's orbiting around making it big. They're playing an all-ages show at Club Retro tonight, getting billed like an out-of-town headliner. Catch 'em in town while you can. They're leaving on tour later this month.

4. DON'T GET SPANKED
If you like your rock shows firmly over 21, rippingly loud and with a little bit of naughty mixed in, then check out Saturday night's metal show at Audie's Olympic with Tyrannosaurus Christ (easily the best named band in town this weekend). We're not saying you have to dress like a latex nun ... but I'm sure it would be appreciated.

5. GET LOCAL
If you're up for a local music adventure, try Starline tonight. It's a genre-hopper, with the hard-rocking Synezra and This Midnight Scene, the hard-partying Leather Serpent, alt-rock outfit Say Swear and rock violinist Patrick Contreras.
