Shark C-section? Awesome

Nature is so much cooler than everything else. Take the following story about a shark who gave another shark a C-section at Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World in New Zealand.

Visitors were shocked to see one shark bite another in the belly, and were even more shocked when four baby sharks spilled out of the wound. Sharks biting each other is fairly common, but this was no ordinary bite. According to one of the aquarium's employees, "It had to bite a certain part to let them out and do it without killing them [the babies] or her [the mother]."

Staff had no idea the shark was pregnant, and may never have known since babies born tend to be eaten right away by other sharks. The four babies were rescued in time and, along with four more babies found when the mother was stitched up, are doing fine in a nursery tank as they await release into the wild.

So cool.

Heather, that is CRAZY! So crazy, I had to copy you and post the story, too.
Mad props must go out to my co-worker Justin for his headline - Shark "Sea"-Section. (Yes, they were in a tank. Just go with it...) Thanks!

Hmm. I'm actually sort of jealous I didn't come up with it myself.

I'm with you on how fascinating this Nature stuff can be. I scored one of those old 70's era Jaque Cousteau (like I'm gonna spell it right) specials from the library. I remember my family being glued to these things when I was a little kid. Good stuff. (and sharks are always a ratings winner---is there a 'shark channel' on cable these days?)

YAY!
Did you just say "Library"?!?

We didn't need multiple TV channels of our own when WE were kids! Jaques Custeau specials and Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom were the BEST!

"Let's all watch while Jim swims around looking for sharks, dressed in tuna guts..."

But did you ever notice those film cuts and fancy camera work while Jim was swimming with the sharks?
---First: dramatic view of some big ol' 6 or 7 foot man-eating monster, cut to Jim swimming with a couple little 2-footers that threaten to bite his fingers. (granted, I'd be scared of the two footers too.)

Now Coustea? Those dudes were all like James Bond with their mini-submarines and crazy tech that they'd developed.
