Because The Beehive said so ...
1. GET DOWN WITH SHIVER FOX
Will Shiver Fox be Fresno's next awesome band? Perhaps. The group is formed by two guys with lots of local music cred -- Trey Tosh and Kyle Baker, ex of Flight 409. Read more about them in this Artists You Should Know Q & A, and then check 'em out tonight at Starline for their EP release party. Here's a sample of Shiver Fox is doing.
2. TREK DOWN TO THE CREST
The latest incarnation of punk legends The Misfits are at the Crest Theatre on Sunday. No Danzig, of course -- sorry, punk fans. Another good storyline is the revival of the Crest as a music venue. If you've paid attention over the last year, you've noticed the Crest has brought in more and more touring rock and hip-hop shows. I wrote a story in today's Bee looking at Crest and why it might be the mid-size venue Fresno desperately needs.
3. HARDCORE COMEBACK
Harsh Reality, an '80s Fresno punk band, is playing a reunion show tonight at Audie's Olympic. Not sure if this is the point -- but it's been 25 years since the band released its first recording. You can check out more of the band's history on its MySpace page.
4. FLY WITH THE AVI-ATOR
Visalia snatched up another good show, this time with young singer/songwriter and Sub Pop Records signee Avi Buffalo. Just a year out of high school, Avi is already on the fast-track to indie rock fame. A debut album is due next year, the the Sound-N-Vision folks scored a show tonight at Howie & Son's. 9:30 p.m. $5.
5. TRAIL FOR WINE
On a non-music note: The Madera Wine Trail is hosting its Holiday Spirit Weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Head over to Joan Obra's column for more details (it's the second half of the column, btw) or check out the Madera Wine Trail site.
