In the paper today, I had a Q & A with don't-let-his-looks-fool-ya soul singer Mayer Hawthorne, who is at Starline on Monday.
There was a bunch of good stuff that didn't make it into the paper, so I'm giving you audio of the entire interview below. But first, I'm going to lecture everybody real quick.
Fresno, please don't disappoint on Monday night. I realize Mayer Hawthorne is not on mainstream radio and isn't a household name, but this guy is pretty darn rad. Just listen to the music.
He's one of those buzzed-about rising acts that we don't get here too often. Or that usually ends up in Visalia. Thing is, if shows like this sold out, we'd get more of the artists of the moment.
We all know Fresno and many of its citizens have big-city envy. So let me tell you this: This is the kind of show that would sell out in a big city. In fact, he just sold out in L.A. the other night. So let's not be that lame city where only 50 people showed up.

I almost resent you for putting up this post, but only because I haven't bought tickets yet and I don't want the show to sell out before I do!
I just bunny-hopped to The Laundry Room and got my tickets. There are six left at that location.
Where was the energy at the Barrel House? The faces in the crowd looked like they were barely hanging on. Zzzzz...not really my flavor, but have fun guys.

Thanks for this post, Mike. You nailed it. Not only is this just plain going to be a great show, but this guy IS on his way to being big. I'd even go as far to say that if we were booking this show today, and not a few months ago, we wouldn't be able to get him here. Fresno needs to represent on Monday.
Whether you like this kind of music or not, you're gonna see a really talented guy doing some really talentful stuff. If you call yourself a fan of music, you should be able to appreciate that.
And I'm declaring here: if you go to the show and don't enjoy the performance, I will write you a personal letter of apology on a crisp, new piece of high-quality paper. That's how confident I am. I dare you.

i don't co sign too many new artist, but mayer hawthorne is a great new artist. congrats to love the captive for making this happen. i will definitely be there and will make sure i get some people there as well..

Ah, man, I've never heard this guy before - listening to his music is literally a pleasure! Ok, sorry, just heard him for the first time so had to effuse lol. Hoping Monday's show sells out. I'm an old married lady with 50 kids so I'm sure Teule and I won't make it - dang, what a bummer :( but truly grateful I've now heard of Mayer Hawthorne, so THANK YOU!

The first time I heard anything about Mayer Hawthorne was through twitter a couple weeks ago. I listened to 2 songs and I was hooked. If you haven't already bought your tickets for the show do it now, it's gonna be awesome.
I am beyond excited to see Mayer come through the Valley! I heard his track on Power 106 of all places back in may for Felli's new @ 2 mix! I can't wait to see him live!
