I'm glad you said something, Abe. I was hesitant to add re:FUSE to the list because the site says something about volunteer opportunities being limited.
I'll add it to the post now.
Thanks
I think Community Service in lieu of a fine is good. Granted, the person doing something wrong should be punished but sometimes the pocket book just isn't the way to go. Sure, you do the crime and you do the time blah blah blah -- that's great and what if a person can do an hour of community service for every dollar the fine would be? Then he's in the clear and debt paid to society where as if you fine his pocket book -- you might end up where the person cannot pay, gets sent to collections, amount he owes goes up, and now he has a hard time getting a job or a loan because he has poor credit. Granted, he made the poor choice originally but the fact is we still need to have productive members of society and if someone would rather do Community Service and can do it and will do it versus not being able to pay a fine -- then it should be an option.
I would definitely advocate for a Community Service over a fine approach.
Also, this event might not make you a better citizen, only a more happy and drunk one: The Dumb is giving away tickets to Rockstir taking place Saturday. Deadline to enter is tomorrow at 9 p.m.
Thanks for the plug! Maybe we'll see an official Beehive entry this time? I would love to see one from all the other local blogs as well! Think of this as an unofficial Blogger Olympic event :)
The Beehive already participated in a Swede this year. RETIRED.
But we'll enjoy watching other, more creative people's Swedes.
Awesome post Heather. I appreciate the citizenship focus and being included.
Thanks, Kiel. There's no way we could do a citizenship post and not include you. You do a lot of positive things for your community.
Thanks for the shout out, Heather! Hope you get a chance to check out some of my vacation pix from Memphis! Yes... I went to Graceland! Ha! You'll have to scroll down several posts on the blog to get to the pictures, but it's worth it!
