Email of the morning

From a reader:

I wonder how much money cash-strapped California is spending to chase Roman Polanski around Europe?

It's worth it: screw that guy for running like a chickens***.

Jail?
...oh, sorry, I got confused, I thought he was being flown back so his body could lie-in-state and have a public televised ceremony with all his siblings for being such a genius, that would cost the state, er, city millions...

different 'brilliant'pervert, my bad.

Dude,
he NAILED a 13year old,
was convicted,
and then bounced to Europe when he found out that he was going to be sentenced...
WHO CARES that it was 30 years ago?
That's RAPE and violation/corruption of a minor.

-It's been one of the most 'celebrated' 'rape and get away with it,' cases in modern society...
(well, except 'the King of Pop' putting special meaning into that moniker.)

'Cash-Strapped' has nothing to do with it.
(dumb question.)

(example)
-A woman gets raped on the property of Granite Park, (pre legal-fiasco) --back when Mayor Bubba declared a 400,000 surplus.
-A woman gets raped on the same property (after) we find that we now get to own same said rotting landscape (and a new overpriced museum) --and are 15million shy of writing digits in black...

Do we prosecute?
Does it matter?

Does Fresno go after crime (no matter how expensive)
NOW that we're way past broke???

Justice needs to be served, (not to mention the condition of the poor girl who got to grow up knowing that she didn't 'rate.')

This guy's been waving it in people's faces for decades. (I don't care how 'gifted and brilliant' and artist he is.
He's a deviant pervert, raped a kid, and gets to pay the price. (done.)

-Ask the 'kid' and her family if it's worth it.

This is my rant of the day.

Wet says 'ask the kid and her family...'

The 'kid' is the one who petitioned the supreme court to drop it. The Supreme Court judge only said he couldn't dismiss it cuz Roman wasn't there in person to petition the court.

Also, Wet, he wasn't convicted. He pled guilty to one count of illegal sexual intercourse as part of a plea deal. When he heard the judge had a grudge, he fled.

I will be furious if we spend oodles of $$ to bring him back here 35ish years later just to sentence him to time served and to let him go, which is what appears to be the likely scenario.

Or he might just change his plea to 'not guilty' and the case will be dropped for lack of evidence, cuz the victim ain't testifying. She's already over it, has sued and settled, and is on with her husband and kids. She says the incident, however gross, didn't ruin her, but the media swarm did. Now the swarm is back and she wants it dropped pronto.

Let the old man go. It's past the point of ridiculous. He's not going to do it again. The victim is way over it. The plea deal fell apart. No court can convict him. So now what? Spend tons of money to bring him here and charge him with fleeing? What's the sentence for that? He already served 42 days back then, and will likely serve a few weeks til this is settled...and the likely sentence for fleeing is a fine and time served.

He's gonna walk and we just wasted taxpayor money solely because he's a name celeb. Anyone else we let go already.

Cash strapped has everything to do with it.

We're RELEASING prisoners because we don't have enough coin to keep them.

"Justice needs to be served????"

We can't even afford to serve it on the on the guys who are already IN JAIL.

And, of course, we're not serving justice when we can't pay prosecutors to prosecute cases, rape or otherwise. Criminals are going free right now, as we speak... because we're cash strapped.

So... go ahead... write another five or six pages in response.

uh lets see...drugged and raped a 13 year old and got away with it...ITS ABOUT TIME.... O.J. killed someone and he got away with it...lets get Roman so he wont get away with this.

(five or six pages in response... cute.)

You know how this plays out?

Somebody distant in a situation like this is 'factored out.'
-and it's justified.

(doesn't matter... there is no absolute 'right-or-wrong,' --is there?)

The laws don't really apply, here, -do they?
It's about time, payoff and 'if' the public cares.

This is one of the most notarized 'sex with a minor' circumstances in the arts.
-Everybody knows Polanski screwed a young adolescent.
--and he walked.

There is no defence for it. (at all.)

Each year, probably each month, -hell, each day?
probably hundreds if not thousands of kids (that age, -and younger, -and older, get taken advantage of.)
--and you know what?
Adults walk then to.. in droves.

Right and Wrong is not dictated by money (ever.)
-Use that logic?
-and it's okay to go 'buy some kid' (which you can do, readilly here in the US,) --and do what you want to them --because you have the money.
-a fact neither of you are addressing.

Now... some folks believe in 'karma'
-but 'karma' really doesn't work for me.
-too many people complain about 'waiting for the payback and how karma isn't balanced.'

I believe in a higher authority, (but more locally?) I believe in each person taking responsiblity and seeking to see 'right' done.

Which takes nothing, financialy.
-just a backbone and reasonable set of morals and ethics.

And those?
Really aren't 'up for sale,' aren't affected by 'the economy,' and really aren't negotiable.

I'm assuming that (if) any of you had someone who (you) cared about --sexually taken advantage of?
It would be full court press.
There would be justice sought, --maybe even vigilantism justified.

(why?)
--because the individual who was violated was someone you cared about.
--and at the base of it would be 'the principle of the thing...'

In this case?
They're not.

In this case?
They're some hypothetical hymen that would have been broken (anyway,) and life has gone on...
-right? (did I miss something?)

I see a reasonable hope.
(what is that?)

That more people don't think like you (two.)
That people still believe in an absolute sense of 'right and wrong' --and see it as 'this is a crime committed, this was rape, and this must be answered for.'
(which, I beleve most folks 'will.')

The challange to that 'reasonable hope?'
--that each person has their own standards and own definition of 'who's worth the effort' of seeing justice prevail, --and rapists gone after.
--which means a 'local' 'personal' situation (which, honestly I hope never happens... because people don't really 'recover' from rape... they just sort of learn to deal with it, --but there are scars, pretty much forever.)

Now.

Will (you two) really go after the offender and seek to see the violated healed, and the situation 'brought to justice?'

Maybe.

And (if?) that time comes, where a 'young person' that you care about is violated?
You're going to really hope that people NOT like yourselves -are going to care.

(honestly? (should) that scenario happen? I really hope, for the sake of the victim, it's not 'what goes around comes around.'

(Have I reached five pages yet?)

I will tell you this:

Characteristically, and statistically?
Sexual abuse is not an 'isolated' event.
-And those who do/justify it --often do it more than once... (It's a pattern that they feel they can get away with.)

The bright side?
Eventually they do.

The dark side?
So many 'don't.'
-and the toll just rises astronomically, with millions of people (each year) having to live with this sense of '..what's been done to me? isn't worth the trouble of even talking about, much less going to the authorities over...'

-which is what predators (of kids, adolescents, adults, seniors,) ALL bank on.

Ya just wonder, ya know?

Do a 'sex-offender' search in Fresno (just for kicks)
--and realize HOW many more there are, --that just havn't been reported (because of one complication, social stigma, fear (whatever) --or another...

And it all starts with somebody looking at somebody else, and deciding '..I can do ________ to them, and nobody (really of importance) is going to care.'
(the sickening factor? --the victim isn't even seen as as a 'person,' --just a sliding scale of opportunity.

Reading your comments?
Tell me which side of this you're building up, and then ask 'why?'

(I'm sure others are.)

Have a nice day.
