Weekend Rewind: Volcano nachos, Motownphilly and Kate minus clothes

Volcano-Nachos-from-Taco-Bell.jpg

So. How was your weekend? Mine was quite nice, thanks:

FRIDAY: Dinner at the Red Lobster (oh, it's all class all the time for me, friends), followed by drinks and pool at the Brig, and then arcade basketball and pizza (aka dinner number two) at Me N Ed's Victory Grill.

Sidenote: have you tried Taco Bell's Volcano Nachos? I had them for lunch Friday and couldn't finish them, my mouth was burning so much. Volcano Nachos, you are my Everest!

SATURDAY: Daylight hours were spent as usual: sleeping/staring blankly at my television. I had to pick up my brother from the train station early in the evening, and afterward we headed over to El Torito for margaritas, chips and salsa. A tip from me to you: do not order the banana margarita. You're welcome.

After dropping off Broseph, I met friends at Livingstone's for dinner, where we had to endure sharing space with the drunkiest drunks on Drunk Island. No joke -- it wasn't yet 8 p.m., and Captain Douche and his douchetastic Lady Friend were stumbling around, hollering and knocking things over. Where was the staff, who should have been cutting them off and controlling the situation, you might ask. So did we.

The evening got exponentially better from there, however. We headed out to Chukchansi, where those of us who lost tried to be happy for the one who won. Boyz II Men were performing, and thanks to a faulty set-up that allows for the venue doors to be propped open by guests entering and exiting, we got to hear some of their set. "Motownphilly" back again ...

To rally the spirits, we took our newly monied friend and his fistful of singles to City Lights, where we got to see a guy get bounced AND a dancer who looked like Kate Gosselin. Everybody to the tip rail -- those eight kids don't pay for themselves! Except that they totally do.

Afterward, it was another quick trip to the border (no Volcano Nachos for me this time), and then lights out.

SUNDAY: Bacon, egg and cheese biscuit from McDonald's (helllls yes) followed by hours of napping, a half-hearted attempt to be awake, more napping, and then an evening of "Mad Men"-y goodness. Don Draper: you're so bad and yet soooo good.

And there we are. A fun August weekend.

What did I miss? What was everyone else doing?

Only one suggestion. Next time you're at the train station, swing into Shepherd's Inn across the street instead of El Toritos. Better atmosphere and cheaper drinks.

Thanks. I was craving a peach margarita, chips and salsa and didn't think the Shepherd's Inn would satisfy that craving. Am I wrong?

Nope, you made the right choice.

I did, of course, consider the Shepherd's Inn, but in the end it was the fruit margaritas that won out.

I'll try the Shepherd's Inn another time, as I am curious to see what it looks like on the inside.

you go to city lights, eat red lobster, get your drink on in the afternoon, and eat breakfast at McDonald's. you'z da shiz...

Friday:
Went to the Woodward Shakespear show with family and friends. It was powerful and the evening was super lovely--nice and cool. (I think I put that I saw the Saturday show in a post down the scroll-o-machine...woops)---we upped the high-class cultural antie by bringing KFC along.

Saturday:
Went 'college shopping' with my now-senior-in-high-school daughter---walked all over the campuses of San Francisco State and Berkeley. Whether she ends up in either school, we had a great day and good talks about stuff (and we went to both Amoeba AND Rasputin's Record shops on Telegraph!)

Sunday:
Church, then worked more on the slowly-but-surely 'upcoming' Trike Shop album (thanks Lauri for the sweet flute part!), then some cheap California wine while hanging out with our bassett hounds and reading on the back patio--that's the sweet life, baby!

Hmmm... I may take the Volcano Nacho challenge myself and hit up Taco Bell at lunch.

Let us know how it goes.

Can I just say that Don Draper was on point last night. That guy's pimp game is strong.

Examples:
1. When he told the flight attendant: "I've been married a long time. There are plenty of chances."

2. When he was on the plane with Salvatore, and the flight attendant was coming on to him and he basically let Salvatore know he's Don Draper and stuff like this happens to him on a daily basis.

Don Draper is an American hero.

I think Betty, who wants their home life to be its best, might disagree. She should cut off his Dick Whitman and boil it in hog fat.

Stones: our motto is 'we'll serve ya when them other folks won't!'

Volcano Nachos = why?

Red Lobster MAY have the low-class rep, but dangit, it's just good!

I have seen exactly one episode of Mad Men. I'm always late to these things. I haven't seen a single episode of Heroes, The Wire, Weeds, or Lost. I like to wait for Bravo to start showing an episode a day so I don't have to wait a week...I'm impatient like that. (I've actually DVR'd the entire series of 'Rescue Me' so far for just that reason).

Blake, it's time for you to seek therapy. Your fantasy world of living needs to stop. Face it, your music will never play well in Liverpool, nobody is intrigued by the theramin, and your daughter is just now twelve, so stop the lies!

Ain't nothing wrong with no Red Lobster.
