I wrote in my column last Friday about my inner struggle with the new "G.I. Joe" movie. The kid in me is elated to see the Joes on the big screen, but modern me is educated enough to know the big-screen adaption will suck.
... or will it?
I haven't submitted and seen it yet, but I have heard good things from friends and FresBlogger Brodiemash -- a nerd of my same generation -- liked it enough.
The movie did as expected at the box office, bowing at No. 1 while bringing in $56.2 million domestically. It's only gotten a 39% rating at Rotten Tomatoes, though.
So who saw "G.I. Joe" and liked it enough to try to convince me to see it? Who saw it and thinks I should stay away forever?
I will say this: I saw "(500) Days of Summer" over the weekend, and that made me want to see "G.I. Joe" even less -- considering the wussy, whiny kid that stars in it is also Cobra Commander.

Honestly Mike it wasn't that bad. Yeah there were some stupid parts, and Snake Eyes' mask kept bothering me with the molded in lips. But I think it was way better than Transformers 2. I say see it on a matinee.
And the guy who plays CC did a pretty good job, he didn't have his normal whiny voice.
Holy Hell... Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Cobra Commander? Welp, that puts the final nail in the coffin for me.
Only reasons I wanted to see it were for Ray Park and Arnold Vosloo, but they can't even convince me to go knowing this new CC knowledge.
For shame...
I knew Levitt was in the movie, but the friends I went with didn't. As the credits rolled, they were surprised the "kid from Third Rock" was CC. He's actually a pretty good actor, did a great job in Stop Loss. He did a good job, my only problem was his mask was different, but the studio had reasons for that.
It's a popcorn flick, this isn't the next Blackhawk Down.
Ray Parks FTW! Unfortunately, he is horribly underused in the film and never really shows of his mad wushu skills :(
I posted a review over at DumbDrum, but I'll give you the down-and-dirty.
Overall: Lame. Not unwatchable. If you're not a fan, it might even be kinda fun. Still ... lame.
