TMZ is reporting that writer, director and producer John Hughes, 59, has passed away. According to reports, Hughes had a heart attack while taking a walk in New York City.
Though he hadn't directed a movie since 1991's "Curly Sue," Hughes holds a special place in film history as director of a string of much-beloved coming-of-age movies from the 1980s, among them "Sixteen Candles," "The Breakfast Club," "Weird Science" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."
He also wrote "Pretty in Pink" and "Some Kind of Wonderful."
After the 80s, Hughes wrote and produced more child-friendly fare like the "Home Alone" and "Beethoven" movies, "Flubber" and "101 Dalmations."
Condolences to his family, friends and fans.

Those clips bring back so many memories. These are the the best movies from my teens. I loved "Sixteen Candles," which still cracks me up. Today's comedies just don't touch these gems.
