Update: Kris Allen was named the 2009 American Idol.
Even though I have been an Adam Lambert fan all season, the outcome does not upset me. I think Adam is better off. He has the freedom to do the kind of glam rock he should. After seeing him perform with a medley with Kiss and "We Are The Champions" with Queen, there is no doubt in my mind he put out a hell of a rock album (and put on a wild rock show).
For Kris, there's mainstream rock radio just waiting to play that awful "No Boundaries" song. I feel bad for the guy ... let's hope all the negative feedback on the song sends the producers back to the studio for take 2 so Kris can put out a better first single. At least he's bound for better songs on the rest of his album. He is obviously a good musician.
And with that, I'm off on vacation. See you in a couple weeks.
Original: The only thing that sticks out about the "American Idol" final showdown Tuesday night is how SUCKY that final song was (co-written by judge Kara).
I thought the reason I hated (either version) of the song, "No Boundaries," was because I watched the show at 12:30 a.m., after the No Doubt concert, and was a bit tired. Then, this morning, I listened again. Yikes! It was worse than I thought. It makes me want to gag.
It's a shame that season filled with interesting contestants, who seem to have so much more musical talent than singers in past years, get stuck singing (and having to release as a first single) one of the worst songs EVER in the history of this show. I bet Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and David Cook are thanking their lucky stars they didn't get stuck with such a dud.
I actually think the person who loses tonight gets off with a better deal -- not having to release that crappy song. I'm actually rooting for my favorite, Adam Lambert, not to win.
To me, the show overall was a let down. It really didn't change any minds. Adam fans remained fans (though, I thought he was subdued last night and wanted to see a more flamboyant performance); and Kris Allen fans got a good dose of the soft contemporary rocker (I thought he performed the best he had all season). In the end, it felt like a tie. Kris winning round 1, Adam round 2. We will just forget that horrible last song they both were subjected to singing.
What did you think? Any predictions for tonight?

Adam stands out for me as an amazing singer and a consumate performer. He exudes incredible emotion and sways his moods to compare with the lyrics.
When he changes a song's arrangement, he adds to the song immensely.
For me, there are probably 200+ guys who can do what Kris does, but there's really only one Adam.
Having said that, I hope Kris wins. I think Adam has more to gain by NOT being THE American Idol. Kris will get stuck with the lousy Kara song (tho I think it might make an okay country tune if worked with). Adam will only have to do the tour, then he can release his solo album and tour on his own. I'd gladly pay $50 bucks to see him live.
I would gladly watch Kris for free if he ever plays The Starline.
I think Kris WILL win. Danny's conservative Christian voters won't vote for a gay man, and Danny's tween girl voters will also switch over to Kris. It was so close last week that Kris will noodge Adam out tonight.
But Adam is the best American Idol contestant all-around ever.
They have NEVER had an american idol song that was even worth listening to. All of the american idol songs really sucked, that is why most of the singers dont make it. the only ones around are kelly clarkson and carrie underwood, they got popular after they started making different music and off the other songs on their albums not the american idol song. They (american idol) are suppose to be people from the music industry yet they suck at writing and producing good music. Its just sad. I always feel sorry for the winner because their first single is the god aweful american idol song. Give the winners a good song and they will make it.
Adam meet Bo Bice...Bo Bice meet Adam.
Not current, nobody cares about glam rock as it is now 2009...get over it...the better artist won.
Had this been "American Drama Performer" Adam would have won hands down as everything he does belongs on Broadway and not in the recording studio.
Kris much like David Cook, who had an amazing performance last night and one of the best voices to come out of Idol, are what people listen to and pay to see/hear.
Maybe Adam and Bo Bice will duet on a single and call it...We were once Rockers on Idol!
@Stephen
"But Adam is the best American Idol contestant all-around ever."
Ummm, Carrie Underwood?
Nobody will ever touch her stardom as she not only was hot during and after Idol but has become an Icon. You don't compare her to Idol singers anymore she's compared to the GREATEST singers of all time now. Topping not only country charts over and over but pop charts over and over.
Her voice is flawless and it's as if she never misses a note when performing.
Adam is the best ever??? Stephen come back from the 1980's as it's 2009 now...Glam Rock is dead! If Adam sells 500,000 records even with the Idol momentum (David Archuletta???) let alone the MILLIONS sold by some of the best Idol contestants (Cook, Underwood, Daughtry, etc.) I will be as shocked as I was when I saw him in that outfit he wore when signing with Kiss...
Don't worry though...he will be throwing some rockin concerts at dive bars where old school rockers like to get their party on...LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLE MAN!
I am not surprised by the outcome of this contest. America voted and now she will get what she deserves.
I think the outcome really worked out for both of them. Kris gets the promotional push he needed and Adam is no longer restricted by the lameness of American Idol.
I wish them both the best of luck.
@Bo Bice:
Carrie and Kelly C. notwithstanding, Adam is the best AI contestant ever because he's NOT just glam-rock.
He'd already done the rock band thing, and it was tired. He'd done the theatre thing and while he's good, it didn't allow a full show of his talent.
His particular gift is to take songs and re-interpret them (c'mon, give it UP for 'Ring of Fire').
He will be around longer than Bo Bice, Chris Daughtry, or Davids Cook and Archuleta. My money is on Adam to have a long and metamorphical* career, ala Madonna.
*Yes, I make up my own words.
@Stephen
As long as Adam does not lean on the scream as much as he did towards the end of the show he will do much better. Myself and everyone I know who watches the show liked him in the beginning but the scream just got old. I had him picked as a top 3 before hollywood!
I actually hated ring of fire as I just like the original too much and would actually say "mad world" was one of his best but even then he had to scream.
As was the case all season, I was right ;)
But my gosh, did you all see the TV coverage today? It was like EVERYBODY on TV thought this was the greatest travesty ever in the history of television, going on and on about how Ruben and Taylor Hicks have tanked while Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson have gone on to prominence as non-winners. Can't poor Kris have his one moment in the sun for actually winning? Adam will have plenty of days if the love he was getting on TV today was any indication.
This was the best season in a while, in my opinion. Certainly better than last season, and miles ahead of that shambles of a finale between Jordin Sparks and Mike Oz' all-time favorite Idol contestant Beatboxin' Blake Lewis. I find myself wanting to hear from Felicia on this one. Someone get her on the horn.
Very interesting and informative blog. Keep rocking.SEO Tampa
