Concert Watch: Little Dragon, Counting Crows, Bon Iver, Pitbull and more

Lots of concert news and tidbits to share, so let's not waste any time.

BIG SHOW WITH LITTLE DRAGON
Swedish electro soul band Little Dragon -- the same Little Dragon that is currently touring with TV on the Radio -- has been nabbed for a Fresno date, May 24 at Audie's Olympic. Word is Love the Captive and Armen Nalbandian are behind this. Eternal props to them.

For the record, dude on the right looks like Swedish Jack Bauer.

ON THE MOUNTAIN
Up at Table Mountain, the good concerts keep on coming. Recent additions to the concert lineup there include:

GIRLS AND A BOY
As you might know by now, The Indigo Girls are playing the Tower Theatre on July 16. I've heard many people talk about this. But what I haven't heard many people gushing over, and this is probably more appealing to some of our readership here on The Hive, is that Bon Iver is opening the show. If you don't know, now ya know.

TROWER: RESCHEDULED AT THE TOWER
Robin Trower's May 22 concert at Tower Theatre has been rescheduled to July 12, because his wife has been ill.

Also worth looking forward to at the Tower:

  • June 5: Poncho Sanchez
  • July 6: Preservation Hall Jazz Band
  • July 16: Indigo Girls
  • Sept. 4: Marshall Tucker Band
  • Nov. 6: Leo Kottke
  • Nov. 14: Aja Vu and Souled Out

KISS THIS, FRESNO

The "Demand KISS" promo is still going on -- and Fresno needs some help. The good news is that we're No. 69 on the list (and that's kinda funny), but the bad news is that we're No. 69 on that doesn't look good for local KISS fans. Still, the campaign goes on:

I HATE YOU WITH A PASSION
Personally, I liked Andre Nickatina much more when he was Dre Dog and put out albums like the one titled above. But Fresno seems to love Nicky no matter the name, which is why folks should be happy to know that he's coming back at the end of the month.

ARF!
Speaking of rap I don't like but other people seem to, Pitbull will be performing at Que Onda Car Show at the Fresno Fairgrounds next weekend. If you're not familiar with Pitbull, just turn on B95 or Q97 for 15 minutes and you'll likely hear three of his songs.

FINALLY, THE YOUNG DUBLINERS
Celtic rockers The Young Dubliners were supposed to play at Cabo Wabo Memphis Blues The Barrel Room (whatever) for St. Patrick's Day. That never happened, but they're still coming to Fresno. Allegedly. This time for an Oyster Festival happening at Public House on May 16. I really hope this happens.

VISALIA ROCKS!
As if you need more reminders about the awesome stuff happening in Visalia, here's what the folks at Sound N Vision having coming up:

MORE LOVE FOR THE CAPTIVE
More noteworthy shows coming up from Fresno's top promoters, Love the Captive:

FROM THE INBOX ...
Touring bands whose publicists/band members have recently e-mailed me about upcoming gigs:

  • I Wrestled a Bear Once -- great name, right? -- is playing at The Exit on May 27. No offense, guys and gal, but I think a bear could kick all your asses. Though, the band (pictured above) does have a song called "Tastes Like Kevin Bacon," so I applaud its ability to name things.
  • Sideshow Tragedy is a rock trio from Austin, Tx playing Crossroads at the tail end of Memorial Day weekend, on May 25. Nothing funny to say about them. Tragic, I know.
  • San Francisco's The Music Lovers will set up at The Partisan in Merced on June 20. This one is perfect for, uhhhh, music lovers.

Wow, this is an incredible post, Mike. Where is your ring so I can kiss it, Blogfather.

Also: Love, The Captive rocks.

The music choices in Fresno this year are shaping up nicely!!

Why no love for the Indigo Girls? They have young fans.
