Ashley Taylor, part of the cast of the new production of "Little Women" opening Thursday at Roger Rocka's Dinner Theater, reminds me that "Footloose" isn't the only chance to burn calories on stage. She writes:
I just read your Sunday Spotlight column on the "Footloose Diet," and I have to say, I was so jealous of the workout that cast got... but "Little Women," as it turns out, is nothing to shake a hoop at.
Of course, there's a story. "Little Women" auditioned with "The Wiz," and our choreographer literally only checked to make sure we could quasi-waltz-- that's it. And when we got our rehearsal calendar, dance rehearsals were called "movement rehearsals." Which to me, meant we would probably be doing glorified blocking to music. Yeah. I was calling shenanigans on the term "movement rehearsal" by the end of the week. It looks easy now (I hope), but the choreography in "Five For All" is amazing, but really intense. Not to mention, Seth Scott's "Take a Chance on Me"-- it blows me away that he can sing at the same time.
And when you factor in the INCREDIBLE amount of fast costume changes (and the fact that each (gorgeous) costume involves about a billion yards of fabric)... I just might lose weight in this show after all! :) (Fingers crossed. Let's just say I'm really happy there's more fabric in this show than, say, "Chicago.")
OK, "Little Women" cast members: I expect you to start your weight-loss logs this week.
By the way: I hear that quite possibly the cutest sight you can imagine will take place at the "Little Women" final dress rehearsal tonight: a group of seven guide-dog puppies, ranging in age from 4 months to 13 months, will be on hand as part of their training. Dogs are being trained by members of the local Far-Sighted 4-H Club and are provided by Guide Dogs for the Blind, says leader Mary Harris of Tollhouse. Sounds like a perfect match for "Little Women."

I am anxious to see it.It will be interesting to see it done as a musical. The whole cast is talented so Iknow they will be great in the Roles.
Just so we're clear, weight loss logs don't start until after opening week. There are WAY too many "break a leg" treats to yield any accurate results.
Mmmm... opening week treats. :)
