The bruising hits and the speedy skating are back -- NoTown Roller Derby kicks off its season Saturday night at the Fresno Fairgrounds.
Quick summary for anybody who doesn't know yet: NoTown is the new Fresno roller derby team made up of many members of the popular Smog City Roller Grrls. So basically, new name, almost the same team.

Wow, to read this and the article in the Bee, you would think there was only 3 or four girls on the squad.
Fortunately, this is not the case, and the rest of the team will be there so that NoTown doesn't have to forfeit the bout.
Sure would like to see an article about the entire team, and not just a few of them. Any plans on interviewing the rest of the team?
Or is that all the space you got for such massive egos?

@LovesTheDerb: How many of the players would want featured? There are six in the paper today? We obviously can't put every single player in the paper -- it's just not possible.
Don't be that person who cries when their kids name is not in the sports pages.
@LovesTheDerb: Unfortuately due to space limitations it is not possible to feature the entire team in one article. But a diverse group was featured: a co-captain, a jammer, a blocker, a rookie, a new skater, and a skater returning to the team. Hopefully their will be more opportunities to feature the remainder of the team in future articles.

It's also fun to see the bouts returning to the fairgrounds. The first one I attended was there. It feels more underground, like you need a secret password or something and adds to the whole cool feel . . .
