Chilly weather usually drives people indoors and, that being the case, you might want to check out the different installations at the Fresno Art Museum.
I wrote about the latest shows in a story in today's Bee. But I thought I'd give you a visual sample of what's gracing the galleries these days. This oil painting is by Bruce McGaw, and it's called "Children on a Hill" (1995).
The show includes artists who were involved in or influenced by the Bay Area Figurative Movement, such as McGaw. Another was Elmer Bischoff, whose ink and ink wash on paper drawing, "Seated Woman on Wicker Chair" (1964), is seen here.

There also are the whimsical but humanistic multimedia figures -- small to nearly human-sized -- by another Bay Area artist, Jerry Ross Barrish. He finds plastic trash on beaches and other places and creates pieces like this one, at nearly 6-feet tall, called "Big Trumpet" (1997).

And here's one more, from Renee Carriere, who uses newspapers in the paper mache process to capture the different characteristics of birds in flight (but if you check out her installation, there are a couple of human figures present as well). This one is called "Hummingbird" (2007).
So, that's just a hint of what's at the museum these days. Intrigued?

The other two exhibitions of note are the impressive work of "Theophilus Brown: Paintings", whom I had the wonderful opportunity to chat with and show him my art in the "Small Treasures - Artist Miniatures" exhibition. "Small Treasures" includes the work of many local and regional artists. I am honored to be a participant.
