Beehive Society Page: Benefit for Café Corazón

The benefit for Café Corazón was at Audie's Olympic last night, and the Beehive was there. Here are some photos
from the event, as well as video featuring The Loveseats, Roger Perry, Blake Jones, Rademacher, poet Stephen Mayu
and It'll Grow Back (warning: language NSFW).

Props to all of the performers for donating their time, and to everyone who showed up to give their support and their cash.

Wet Towel Sighting: Sixth picture down with arms folded...

Great night at Audie's...eight bands, four hours, five bucks...

jeesh, I thought black was slimming...

ahyeah, that was a little weird...

I'm standing there, minding my own business, watching loveseats (good band,) with this clot of bloggers (Ed, Heather, Adam, and Travis (I guess that was Travis) were all sitting up front, totally enrapt in the show...

Adam, with complete 'get-smart' dexterity, keeps peeking behind, then like, raises this arm like it's a periscope or some weird tentacle (for you sci-fi fans) and does this reverse snap of me...
(not too obvious, I mean there were like, ten people in the place at the moment... (and I'm standing about 8 feet behind the guy...)
so I'm like... okay, Adam just took my picture, whatever...

So he and heather check out the picture (buzz-buzz)...

And, then, arm slowly raises,
head faces forward
(to fool me, '..he's not looking at me, it can't be him,,'
and he does it again (ps: both times with FLASH) in a semi-dark divebar...)
--Which is why I have the look of
'...what?, idiot, WHAT..?'
(whole time he's just sitting stock still, everybody face forward like, you know you see families of 4 rolling stopped at a traffic light in a bad neighborhood (after you hear the doors lock 'down' (whunk)
'...stare straight ahead, dont' move, they can only see you if you move..'
(them curly locks be the top of his head at the base I do NOT have feet (or anything else) that hairy, 'k?

Now...
I've met Adam.
(like, you know, in reality land.)

Met him the night I met Ed
(who's still, like freakin glued to the band playing,) --and we had this nice talk about church and stuff,
(blah-blah-blah,) I think their church had just closed...
Nice talk on this end.
(Adam, it was outside Ashtree after one of Liesl's shows, 'member?...)
Even met Ed's wife too...
lovely people the three of them..
We were like, I think, the last people there.

(maybe it was the beard Sunday that threw'em)

But now?
-they're all up there as clandestine and subtle as a lead freakin' singer on stage, (only slightly less illuminated,)

So I go up, put my hand on Adams shoulder and mumble to him, '...Adam, take a picture, it will last longer.'

He's all
'um, yeah, right, yeah, um, yeah.. um...'
(Like it's a surprise I actually SPEAK English and have broken the 4th wall of 8 feet of Club-Fred Air...
(again, the room was not exactly 'packed yet.'

--and I got my hand other hanging there,
(you know, to shake hands)
and at this time
I'm thinking it's (Travis?)
who's like
'..dude, he's trying to shake your hand, don't be rude.., shake his hand, shake his hand..'

-Ya ever feel like an alien who just walked up to dumbfounded picnic'rs on a lonely stretch of back road.
'...Hi kids how-ya-doin??'
'...Ahhhh!,
quick, be friendly, hide here in plain view...'

So any I go stand back, assume the position,
enjoy the rest of the songs...

Then decide to go take a wiz in hell.
(I need to explain this:
The mens room? Is painted to look like hell, (I don't recall this the last time I took a wiz at Club Fred,,, and I think I would have remembered wizzing in hell...)

So I go back, again, stand... chat up a wee bit (met a lovely couple, a fellow blogger, got to yak briefly with Leo and Liz...

FINALLY freakin' meet Josh Tehee, (Josh is just way cool, I am so glad to have finally met this man, he's just a really great guy...)

Then, upon alerting Andy of the time (we had to head to church for a planning meeting (and) taffy pull with the youth group (we rock like that.)

I figure,
well...
this must be Heather,
cause she looks JUST like Heather
(very pretty woman, actually,)
and of course,
as he's so enamored with my visage,
-gotta say bubbye to my buddy Adam the paparazzi...

-So I up and do so,

-Also, at this point, I introduce myself to Heather (as Wet Towel) she smiles, shakes hands, and everybody's as awkward and nervous like a bus full of Baptists shaking hands with a naked protestor at a bowling alley in Desmoines...
-I was really thinking about doing this,
as,
well,
Heather is sort of a celeb,
and some people get nervous when strange men just show up and are like '..hi, how are you.'
But I figured, she's flanked by the alt.Christian Mafia, and I don't want to be rude...

(but yeah, it was cool meeting folks, (again,)
and Travis, if that was you, (on the right)
hi.'

Whole time?
Ed's just staring straight ahead like he's playing bingo an has five lines nearly filled and they're putting the numbers up on the (new band) singers forehead.

Are Bloggers just shy or something?
(I don't know if I'd call it rude,)
it was more like
'...ohmygod, you photographed it, now, it's coming this way, shake hands, no sudden movements...'

Funny stuff.

-I'm hoping Leo and Liz had a nice time... (I know Leo felt a bit awkward being the focus of things... he's not one for the limelight, --which is a shame, because the guy just has a wonderful personality, (as does his sweetie,) and talking to him, (ever) you just feel like you're talking with somebody who so appreciates your company...
Leo's cool like that.

Short visit, but way cool.

(I'm wondering if Ed's still sitting there, like, right now,
still staring ahead at the stage
(it could have been an 'Ed' wax museum replica...
I mean, I thought I saw him move once or twice, but then again, when you go to hell to take a leak, you don't see things the same way ever again.)

--and get this, Hell has papertowels?!
---and berry scented handsoap...
...weird wild stuff..

HUGE thanks to all that attended.

Eric called it. I thought maybe a little alcohol would loosen me up and talk to give thanks, but as usual I got all embarrassed. I knew I should have written something, but I thought reading from a paper would seem tooooo dorky.

Everyone that attended, you are all the people that leave that lasting impression, that glimmer of hope that Fresno isn't all about the Fast Food Culture. I do mean that for everyone that was there, and those who couldn't be there but I know would have been.

To the artists that showed and gave support, even more still reason to feel that Fresno still has heart.

I was doing ok with my first couple of drinks, then from out of no where a couple people brought me my fav, back to back, and wooooo, tipsyyyyy. That was a fun stumble home.

Blake and Joy, you are amazing people. Joy, the potted flowers and ice bucket will be one of those things in our home we'll always be able to tell a story about, and when that story is told it will bring smiles and sighs thanks to you.

Fresno is a better place for having people like you all in it.
