Just last week, I was listening to "Illmatic" by Nas, kfed.jpg getting sad knowing there'd probably never be another hip-hop CD that great. My prayers, though, have now been answered.

By who? A saint, Kevin Federline, whose debut rap CD "Playing With Fire" hits stores today.

He's cemented a legacy for himself alongside local literary greats William Saroyan and Philip Levine, by penning a diverse, interesting collection of poems about getting high, marrying into money, fathering numerous children, how the media hates him and how he's better than you. It's epic.

If you're goofing off on the 'Net waiting for party or candy-collecting time this evening, have some fun with this virtual pumpkin carver.

Extra points if you can carve the likeness of K-Fed (his album drops today) onto your pumpkin.

On September 30, Valley Pagans celebrated Pagan Pride Day. On October 31, they will celebrate Samhain -- which is akin to New Year's for Pagans.

This short film gives viewers an insight into Fresno's 2nd annual Pagan Pride Day, which is designed to, among other things, dispel some of the misperceptions about the religion. Also, Fresno State anthropology professor Penny Verin-Shapiro discusses the significance of Halloween to those who subscribe to one of the many Pagan faiths.

Well, "The Office" is a repeat tonight, but at least there are a bunch of noteworthy music happenings:

Another small-screen favorite is hitting the road. ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" will bring its ballroom suave to the Save Mart Center on Dec. 20, the second date in a national tour that starts in San Diego.

The tour will feature dancers from all three seasons, including Drew Lachey, Joey McIntyre, Joey Lawrence, Lisa Rinna and more. Tickets are supposed to go on sale Nov. 4, with prices and details to be annonced next week.

Debate has already started in the office: Will people pay money to see these C-list celebs dance? Hmmm.

More details have emerged on the Jan. 17 Justin Timberlake concert at the Save Mart Center. Tickets to see Mr. SexyBack go on-sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. They will cost $56 and $79. Fan club members get first crack at seats at 9 a.m. Friday.

In other concert news: Disney's popular franchise "High School Musical" announced it is going on the road. The tour will starts Nov. 11 in San Diego. A Jan. 27 Fresno date is on the tour itinerary, with no venue specified. Selland Arena is in talks to host the show, but nothing is final yet. Keep an eye on this one. Tickets should be available soon.

The trailer for season six of "24" hit the 'net today. So many thoughts: Bearded Jack Bauer freed by the Chinese government. Wayne Palmer as president. Explosions. "Mr. President, I understand what is expected of me." Discuss.

Let the debate begin. Today, Joan Obra and my taco conquest of the Valley published. We sampled 23 different tacos over two days in our search of the best carne asada taco. We picked our top 10 and explained why in this story (you can also take a taco poll and check out a video of our journey). And as you could guess, the e-mails are already rolling in.

Fresno Bee food writer Joan Obra and pop culture writer Mike Osegueda hit the Valley to find the best taco. With a dozen cities and twice as many locations to check out, it took two days to complete the task.

Check out the short film "Two days & a lot of tacos in the Valley" to see two journalists doing what it takes to get to the bottom of this important story. (Please don't hold us accountable if you get hungry for tacos.)

Here's the story.

Justin Timberlake is bringing sexy back to Fresno.

On Tuesday afternoon, both the Save Mart Center and tour promoter AEG Live confirmed a Jan. 17 Timberlake concert at the arena. He'll be kicking off his 34-date North American tour on Jan. 8 in San Diego. Singer Pink will open.

No details yet on when tickets will go on-sale or how much they'll cost, but Save Mart Center general manager Steve Tadlock says that information could be announced later this week.

Did you catch our native son Kevin Federline's latest national televised embarrassment? He was a guest on World Wrestling Entertainment's Monday Night Raw and was on the receiving end of a body slam and scathing battle rap from fellow wannabe emcee/WWE star John Cena. Virtual daps to Cena, but I'm sure millions of people are jealous that they didn't get to knock K-Fed around.

You have to watch it. It's floating around the net in three parts: K-Fed's intro, Cena's rap dissing K-Fed and finally the slam heard 'round the Internet. I've watched it four times already this morning. And it's better each time.

The Fresno Bee sports copy desk just informed me that LSU is favored by 32.5 points against Fresno State this weekend. Not that we condone gambling here at The Beehive, but we just thought we'd share the latest involving Pat "1-5" Hill's play-'em-anywhere-anytime strategy.

By the way, 32.5 points works out to four touchdowns and a field goal, plus another half of a point -- for, you know, good measure.

Puppet the Psycho Dwarf picked a plate up off a table at Fagan's Irish Pub, pulled it back toward his shoulder and sized up his opponent, Madd Mexx, for a shattering blow.

But distraught pub owner Carrie Fagan-Davis, who moments earlier watched the two Half Pint Brawlers break one of her tables with a piledriver, grabbed the plate from Puppet's hand before it could meet its destination. She was still shaking her head. The crowd, which had left its seats by this point and circled around the two midget wrestlers, booed shortly, but was cheering again once Puppet slammed Madd Mexx's head into another table.

So I went to Club Fred (a bar in Fresno's Tower District) on Friday night and I ordered a glass of water. The bartender said it'll be $2. I clarified that I just wanted a glass of water, and she said they only sold water, as opposed to giving it away. It was explained that when it gets busy, they have to charge because otherwise they'd run out of glasses.

Here's my question: Is this a common practice?

Seriously, Bulldogs football - is it the talent level, on field decisions, morale, coaching, bad karma - is it ... ?

Check Cherish off the list of "Ch" acts performing tonight at The Big Fresno Fair. The fair announced this afternoon the foursome of sisters from Atlanta, who hit big with "Do It To It," were "unable to attend the concert."

Performances from headlining rappers Chamillionaire and Chingy will go on as planned. Refunds are available for diehard Cherish fans who don't care to see the rappers tonight at the Paul Paul Theater. However, unused tickets would have to mailed into the fair starting Oct. 16 in order to get that refund. For more further information, call (559) 650-3247.

David Lee Roth isn't coming to Fresno this month after all.
The Oct. 29 concert featuring Roth, Shooter Jennings and The Marshall Tucker Band has been canceled because of "a scheduling conflict beyond the control of Chukchansi Park."
Full refunds are available at the downtown stadium's box office.
The concert was to be the third in a new partnership between the Fresno Grizzlies and Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino.
Next Wednesday's (10/18) show with Ana Gabriel and Paul Rodriguez is still on as scheduled.
For more information on either show, call (559) 320-8497.

Fresno State just suffered one of the most embarrassing losses ever - outplayed by Utah State. Sure, things happen. But seriously, can the Bulldogs win another game this season?

As you know, the Big Fresno Fair kicked off its 2006 celebration last week with a Kenny Rogers concert to top off opening night. Well, the Beehive was almost as excited as Rogers' fans, so we were there to cover the inevitable craziness. Check out the short film "A concerted effort" to see Kenny do his thing, as well as his followers performing some inspired renditions of his most famous song.

Then on Saturday, members of the Valley's 4H and FFA organizations took part in the fair's annual replacement heifer auction. We met up with the Kubar family with Chris, 16, and Madeline, 12, looking to get top dollar for the cattle they've been raising. Check out the short film "Talk about a cash cow" to see what happened.

Well, another bad loss. Fresno State fans and opposing fans should have plenty to say. So, go to it ...
