A survey by Salary.com (not Men's Health this time) says that Fresno is the ninth least affordable place to live for paycheck earners. Contrary to the popular wisdom that Fresno's an economic haven from the Bay Area blues, the Salary.com survey suggests coastal refugees can do slighly better in Oakland, Modesto or Orange County, and much better in Sacramento, San Bernardino or Riverside.
